Gin Distilling Workshop - Friday 13th December (6.30pm - 9.30pm)
6 places available
During the Workshop you will receive a welcome gin and tonic then settle in and learn about the social history of gin; the origins, the distilling process and the gin drinking trends that have evolved over the last 300/350 years, some of which are really quite startling! Don't worry, we won't be testing you.
Then you will be able to decide which botanicals you would like to use for your bottle of gin.
We have many dried botanicals for you to choose from, along with some fresh which you can pick straight from our garden. You will be able taste, smell and choose any that take your fancy.
At this point there will be opportunity for another gin and tonic, just to help with your flavour decision making.
Once you have made your flavour choices it's time to set away the distillation process on your own copper pot still.
While your gin is distilling there will be time for a little break, we provide a few locally sourced snacks courtesy of Cornhill Village Shop, just to keep you going. Also we have tea, coffee and soft drinks as an alternative to gin.
Please advise us in advance of any specific dietary requirements.
As your gin begins to trickle through the still you will need your thinking caps on as your gin will need a name and a label, we have had some interesting names from students so far.
No experience is required as you will be guided through the distillation process every step of the way.
If you wear glasses for reading, then please don’t forget to bring them with you as measuring and temperature control is really quite intricate.
The workshop can take up to 3 hours, sometimes more sometimes less, but we won’t be calling last orders so there's plenty of time to enjoy the experience.
